It has been the heartbeat of Houston's Fifth Ward: a sanctuary for families, a force for community transformation, and a living testament that the Bible Way is still the only way. Under the leadership of Dr. Sheldon L. Jackson, we are stepping boldly into our year of preparation.

Who We Are
Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church
Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church has anchored the Houston Fifth Ward community since 1872, building a legacy of faith, family, and uncompromising service across more than 15 decades of pastoral leadership.
Under Dr. Sheldon L. Jackson, the church continues its founding mission to help people know the Lord, discover their purpose, and make a difference; guided by the timeless conviction that "The Bible Way Is The Pleasant Grove Way." From establishing the A.A. McCardell Academy to provide GED opportunities for troubled teens and adults, to opening its doors to Hurricane Katrina evacuees with housing, food, and the Word of God, Pleasant Grove has never confined its ministry to the walls of a building.
Today, through the Ministry of Inclusion, the ARK Ministry, and weekly services reaching thousands both in person and online, the church remains a pillar of hope, healing, and forward momentum for the greater Houston community.
